Man Accused of Setting Home on Fire With Children Inside Dies Following Suicide Attempt
Monroe County Sheriff's deputies say the man accused of setting his home on fire with two children inside has died following a suicide attempt at the jail.

Deputies found Jerome Tavolino early Monday morning hanging in his housing unit cell. Rescue crews in the jail cut him down and began CPR.

Tavolino was taken to Strong Hospital, where he died Wednesday afternoon.

Police say Tavolino set his Kilmar Street home on fire November 2nd. Two children were in the home at the time, waiting for their mother to return so they could move out. The 11-year-old helped rescue his three-year-old sister, who is Tavolino's daughter.

Tavolino was charged with second degree arson. His family says he was drunk at the time and started the fire accidentally.
