Man Injured in Car Crash Dies at Hospital
A former worker with the Veterans Outreach Center has died after he was hit by a car Monday afternoon.

It happened in the area of Joseph Avenue and Kelly Street around 3:30 p.m. Monday.

According to the Rochester Police Department, Artis Simpson was standing near his parked minivan when it was hit by a car. His family says he was dropping off furniture to his step-daughter at the time of the accident.

Simpson was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with a severe head injury. He died Tuesday afternoon.

Police are still trying to figure out exactly what happened leading up to the crash.

We met Simpson back in 2000 when he still worked with the VOC. He was an outreach worker, going out into the community to look for homeless veterans as part of the center's Homeless Vets Reintegration Project.

Simpson was a Vietnam vet and knew what those homeless veterans were going through. He had also worked as a supervisor at a drug treatment center.

Artis Simpson was 62-years old.
