COMIDA Vote on Medley Centre Done Without East Irondequoit School District's Knowledge

COMIDA Vote on Medley Centre Done Without East Irondequoit School District's Knowledge
East Irondequoit's deputy superintendent says Monroe County's Industrial Development Agency acted without the district's knowledge in voting on changes to the PILOT program for the Medley Center on Tuesday.

The move comes less than 24 hours after the district's school board voted to enforce a penalty payment on developer Scott Congel for failing to invest $90 million in the property by this past April.

However, minutes from Tuesday's meeting posted on COMIDA's website show a resolution was passed agreeing with a report stating the required investment had been made.

The minutes also showed a resolution was passed authorizing COMIDA's executive director or any other officer to execute an amended PILOT program and put it in escrow for up to six months.

This move appears to extend investment deadlines for Congel by three years.

Deputy Superintendent John Abbott tells us the PILOT agreement requires the district's consent and it has not been given for this move. He added that these resolutions were not originally on COMIDA's agenda for Tuesday's meeting and the district's vote to penalize Congel will stand.
