STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Steuben County man has been charged with assault after allegedly stabbing his neighbor. It happened at a trailer park in Wayland Tuesday afternoon.

State Police say Raymond O'Keefe, 78, knocked on his neighbor's door and then stabbed Laura Thomas, 48, in the neck when she answered. Troopers say the victim's husband was able to intervene and stop the attack.

Thomas was airlifted to Strong Hospital where she's in guarded condition.

O'Keefe is charged with assault and attempted assault. He's in the Steuben County Jail on $50,000 cash bail.
