Police Investigate Body Found

PENFIELD, N.Y. -- Monroe County Sheriff's deputies are investigating the death of a resident from an assisted living facility in Penfield.

Deputies say the body of a 96-year-old resident of Baywinde was found early Wednesday morning in a retention pond near the facility. Investigators say the man was last seen Tuesday afternoon, but a missing person’s report was not filed.

Deputies say there is a steep embankment near the facility that leads to a retention pond. Deputies do not suspect any foul play.

Baywinde Executive Director Susan Bussey released a statement saying, "Baywinde provides a community in which our residents maintain their independence and require minimal supervision. We are extremely saddened by this loss and we have been in close communication with the family of our resident. Our deepest sympathy goes out to them. We understand this was an accident and we are fully cooperating with the investigation."
