The Rochester Folk Art Guild kicked off its annual Holiday Festival of Crafts at the Harley School Friday.

The Folk Art Guild is based out of Middlesex, Yates County and has been hosting the festival for 51 years.

The show attracts those interested in handmade crafts such as pottery, woodworking and weaving.

The event gives people in the Rochester area an alternative to mall shopping; buying things like functional pottery, natural fiber clothing, wooden bowls and wooden toys.

"It's handmade and there's a touch that has gone into the making of things," said David Barnet, a Wood Maker. "And that is communicated to person who receives it. And when we make something, the presentation here is really the final act of the making."

The festival runs Saturday from 10 to 5 and Sunday from 11 to 5.
