State Education Commissioner Stops By Churchville Elementary School

The New York State Education Commissioner is checking in with school districts to see how teachers are implementing the new Common Core Standards of learning.
On Tuesday, Dr. John King made a stop at Fairbanks Road Elementary school in Churchville and observed two classes.
This was just one of several schools that King is visiting in order to see how districts are implementing the SED Reform Agenda. The state-led initiative is designed to set education standards that are consistent across the state to better prepare students for college and careers.
"The biggest challenge in any standards initiative is changing instruction. It is easy for states to adopt a set of standards and say here is what our aspirations are but it is very different to make sure that they translate into different experiences for students in classrooms," King said.
This school year all teachers in grades Pre-K to 8 are implementing CCLS-aligned instruction.
