A Newark man was hit and killed by a minivan Thursday afternoon in Manchester.
Police said 54-year-old Michael Young was hit and killed as he and 53-year-old James Carmel of Manchester were trying to load a van onto a trailer on County Road 7.
Police say the driver of the minivan, 69-year-old King Lewis of Lyons, never saw the truck,
trailer, or van.
"Either you slow down, stop, or move into the other lane. We're still trying to see if there were any other witnesses that may have been traveling in the area at the time of the accident, talk to homeowners in the area that may have been looking out the window at the time of the accident," said Mark O'Donnell, New York State Police. "Certainly, we're talking to the operator of the van, who was taken to Clifton Springs Hospital for injuries, and try to ascertain what happened, why the accident happened."
This is the second fatal accident involving a pedestrian in Manchester. Last month, 35-year-old Tabitha Harris died when she was struck by a car on Route 21.
