22-year-old Robert J. Shand of Fairport was pronounced dead around 2:30 at the scene of the accident.

It happened on Route 250 just south of the intersection with Ayrault Road.

Monroe County Sheriff's deputies say witnesses told them a car was speeding as it headed southbound on 250. That's when the car went off the road. It rolled several times into trees surrounding an electric substation.

The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies say they are looking at a high rate of speed as a factor in the cause of the crash.
