A Rochester elementary school principal is spending the day on the roof of the school. He's there because of the amount of reading his students accomplished this fall.

School 30 challenged its students to the "Read to the Roof" challenge. The students responded by reading more than 20,000 books in 62 days.

As part of the "Read to the Roof" celebration the students had an assembly focusing on reading.

In the last 62 days the 411 students read 22,765 books.

In honor of the students completing the challenge Principal Jason Wertz, with the help of firefighters, was lifted to the roof of the school to do his work.

The children were able to go out and see their principal on the roof throughout the day.
