The people of the Village of Brockport and the Towns of Sweden and Clarkson are showing appreciation for service men and women through Hometown Hero Banners.

Three people received their banners which previously hung around town at the retirement gathering on Saturday.

They've completed their commitments to the US and were recognized at the ceremony. The banners are hung to honor those in the service, but are also a source of pride and emotion for family members.

"It is an honor, and I've had, you know, a parent cry when their son's banner go up," Brockport Stetson Club President Brian Winant. "Another young lady, as fate may have it, her fiance's banner happened to hang outside of her apartment so she said every night she got to see her fiance."

Nearly 60 banners have been displayed around town since the program's start.
