Proposal to Put More Police Surveillance Cameras Up in Rochester
You may be seeing an increase in police surveillance cameras in the Rochester area this year. There could be an addition of 30 cameras, bringing the total to more than 200 citywide.

Mayor Tom Richards has suggested bringing in a firm from Illinois to maintain the cameras. The Avrio RMS Group would receive $220,000 for a contract running through January of 2014.

With Avrio, an engineer will be assigned to the Police Department to install the cameras and give 24-hour support and maintenance.

If the contract passes, it includes an option of three one-year renewals.

City Council members are set to meet on January 17th, and could vote approval on January 22.
