Police Officer Who Took Action to Save Lives in Webster Honored

The Greece police officer injured during the fatal ambush on Christmas Eve in Webster received the Distinguished Service Award from his department on Tuesday.
Officer Jon Ritter was on his way to work that morning behind the first responders and suffered minor injuries when the shooter opened fire. He was hit in the shoulder by shrapnel.
Ritter backed up his car and used it to block the road so no other first responders would get close to the scene.
"This tragedy is about four people who get up in the middle of the night to go do a simple job: to help people. And for some unknown reason, someone decides to do what they did, which is tragic," Ritter said.
Among those in attendance was West Webster firefighter Ted Scardino, who was shot and seriously injured that morning.
Meanwhile, a petition is posted to the White House website to get Ritter the Medal of Freedom for his actions.
