Wyoming County Soldier Laid to Rest
WARSAW, N.Y. — It was standing room only at the Robinson and Hackemer Funeral Home in Warsaw as hundreds paid their final respects to Army Specialist Austin Sampson.

Family and friends were on hand to share stories of the 25-year-old who was killed in Killeen, Texas, on January 4th. Police there say Sampson was shot along with two others while sitting outside of a convenience store.

The Army Specialist was raised here in Wyoming County and stationed in Texas. He served in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn and was still on active duty at the time of his death.

Friday afternoon, friends described Sampson as a loyal friend with a mischievious sense of humor who was dedicated to his country.

Specialist Sampson has been on active duty since 2006 and was buried with full military honors Friday afternoon.

A 17-year-old from Killeen has been charged with Sampson's murder.
