Ontario County Sheriff's Office Honored for Traffic Strategy
The Ontario County Sheriff's Office was honored earlier this week by the state Sheriffs Association for its new traffic and law enforcement strategy.
It's called the Data Driven Approach to Crime and Traffic Safety, or DDACTS, for short. The strategy focuses on putting more officers in high-risk areas.
"We're using an approach to try and reduce property crimes by increasing traffic enforcement. So we've placed more officers in these areas where we're seeing higher reports of property crimes," said Sheriff Philip Povero of Ontario County.
In addition to preventing crime, the system also predicts more common areas for car accidents or possible traffic jams.
