The Webster Police Department held a ceremony to promote three of its own. One promotion filled a void left after the fatal Christmas Eve shooting.
Officer Shaun Welch moved up to Sergeant and Officer Troy Williams was promoted to Investigator.
Sergeant Dennis Kohlmeier, an Iraq War veteran, was promoted to Lieutenant to fill a position left empty after the shooting death of Lieutenant Mike Chiapperini.
"It was important to quickly move forward with promotions. We had the recent tragedy and the intended retirement of one of my criminal investigators, long-time 14-year veteran of
the department, so it was important to put people in place," said Chief Gerald Pickering. "Now we're looking to back fill, to hire some officers, but this is an important pushing off step for us to move forward."
The Webster Police Department currently employs two lieutenants, three shift sergeants, investigators and 28 officers.
