Deputies said they responded to East Avenue and Kilbourn Road around 6:45 p.m. Monday and found a man down on the side of the road not moving.

The man has been identified as 26-year-old Vaughn J. Steele of Pittsford. Deputies said Steele was rushed to Strong Hospital, where he died.

Police said a man did call 911 about three hours later and said he had hit the man with his vehicle. Deputies said the driver waited at his home for deputies to come and question him. Deputies said the man said he thought he had hit a garbage can.

Deputies said no charges have been filed against the driver.

The investigation is ongoing.
