Anniversary of First Social Security Check
Congresswoman Louise Slaughter marked the 73rd anniversary of the first Social Security check with seniors in Henrietta.
On January 31st, 1940, the first United States Social Security check for $22.54 was issued.
During a ceremony Thursday at Legacy at Erie Station Independent Senior Living Community, Slaughter reaffirmed her commitment to protecting retirees. Slaughter says Congress cannot balance the budget on the back of current and future retirees.
