The Veterans Service Agency encourages all veterans to make sure they get the benefits they have earned through their service.

Ken Moore of the Veterans Service Agency explained how the process works and what steps veterans need to take.

Moore said, "At present, the VA is 2.1 million in claims behind in the process. 1.3 million are for new claims in compensation, 236,000 in pension, 231,500 in education and 253,000 on appeal. At present it takes 10 months to a year to get it adjudicated."

Some claims are a little easier to process however. Agent orange claims and post traumatic stress disorder claims with documentation proving the disorders will be faster.

All claims will be given from the stamp date when the claim first arrives. If it takes a year to be processed it will start, not from when it was processed, but when the claim is submitted.

The Veterans Service Agency will have an open house Monday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 125 Westfall Road. To find out more visit Veterans Service Agency.
