A Chili firefighter was injured while preventing a person from running back inside a house fire on Chili Avenue early Sunday morning.

Fire was already visible from the outside when fire crews got to the three-story, multi-family home around 12:30.

Firefighters said the building houses four families, eight people in total.

All of them were able to get out safely.

Fire crews said the size of the building, along with the weather, added extra challenges.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital with an arm injury. Sheriff's deputies say he was preventing a person from running back into the house to try to save his cats.

"There were a couple cats that were rescued from firefighters that were first here on scene and we'll know more about any other animals as we continue the investigation," said Deputy Chief Jason Elliotto.

No word yet on what caused the fire.
