About a year ago, Chief James Sheppard of the Rochester Police Department held a small event a local barber shop to get a chance to talk intimately with people in the community.

Tuesday, he went back to Whitmore's Shop on Monroe Avenue to do it again. This time, he also brought the mayor, Tom Richards.

Since the last meeting, Sheppard says the department has worked on addressing more quality of life issues, like clearing groups from street corners.

He also says they're working to open the lines of communication. That's what the mayor was hoping to do here today too.

"It's not like we're going to have some revolutionary idea here where some guy is going to raise his hand and violence is going to be cured or the school district is 100 percent, but chipping away it is important, and people are able to gain some confidence some faith in the system if they're able to interact with it, with me, with the Chief," said Richards, (D).

There are plans for more Shop Talks in the future.
