The games' website says corporate sponsors have given extra funding to Hurricane Sandy, which means little financial support for the event.

It was just last October when a new not-for-profit foundation announced the games would return after a two-year hiatus.

The state dropped funding for the games in 2011.

The Winter Empire State Games were recently held in Lake Placid.

According to the ESG website, the summer games will return in 2014.
