Hundreds of people filled the New York State Armory in Hornell, Steuben County Friday morning to say goodbye to family and friends heading overseas with the Army National Guard.
More than a hundred members of the 222nd Military Police Company left Saturday. They're going to Camp Shelby in Mississippi for training before heading to the Middle East. The local armory has a strong reputation and members of the company say they'll be in good hands.
"For many years we've had a lot of soldiers actually travel from other states just to come to this unit," said SFC Shane Stevens of the 222nd Military Police Company. "It's been a great unit to be in and they know that they can trust their leadership. The leadership will guide them in the right direction and we should have a pretty good deployment."
Training in Mississippi will last about 45 days before the soldiers are deployed to Qatar.
