A local comic book store began a new chapter Wednesday, opening its doors in a new location after a 29-year history in its Village Gate location.

"It's a big move after 30 years," said Andy Battaglia, the owner.

The store is known to have some of the most loyal comic book collectors.

"Ever since I was able to drive, this became the comic book store that I came to because it really was just it was the best one in the area," said Nathan Hetherington, Rochester.

Comics Etc. had been at Village Gate for more than 29 years. Battaglia says his store was one of a couple longstanding small businesses that had to cut ties with the establishment.

"It was kind of a bitter end to it because I was sent an short email saying my tenancy is being terminated," Battaglia said. "You know, you're used to being at a place, so after 30 years, it's kind of a big thing to have to change your location and you feel like you're starting over."

The store's new location is in the Hungerford Building on East Main Street. Wednesday, Comics Etc celebrated its grand opening with customers.

Battaglia says thanks to his committed customers, he's optimistic about his store's new home.

"I think this is going to be a place where they grow, which would be great for them... and good for us," Hetherington said.

For a store that's been serving Rochester since 1983, they're hoping to be here for good.

"The way we've been welcomed by the Hungerford building by the owner, by the other businesses here, I think we're here to stay," said Battaglia.
