Death of Wayne County Teen Due to Undiscovered Juvenile Diabetes
A 13-year-old in Wayne County unexpectedly died after suffering complications from juvenile diabetes.
A spokesperson for his family tells YNN that Mark "MJ" Deary of Clyde was sent home sick from school on February 28th.
After not showing improvement over the weekend, his father found him unresponsive on Monday. He was taken to Geneva General Hospital, and transferred to Golisano Children's Hospital, where he later died.
His family then discovered he had juvenile diabetes.
Deary's family is encouraging all parents to have their kids tested once a year to prevent more lives from being taken. In a statement they thanked the hospital staff and paramedics, and said:
"He was a great kid and incredibly smart. This is a tremendous loss for the entire family.
The Clyde-Savannah School District is making counselors available for students and staff. It released a statement Wednesday:
"The District is grieving the loss of this wonderful and loving student and sends our condolences to his family. Mark will be sadly missed by the Clyde-Savannah School District family."
