Source: VA chooses Pembroke site for national cemetery
PEMBROKE, N.Y. -- Leaders have chosen their preferred site for a new national cemetery for local veterans, and it's located in Genesee County.

A source tells us the VA has chosen a 132-acre location in the town of Pembroke on Indian Falls Road.

Multiple studies, including an archaeological study, are expected to begin this spring.

Two other sites are being considered in case those studies find anything wrong with the land.

The move was announced in 2010 because federal law requires a national cemetery to be located within 75 miles of any area with more than 170,000 veterans.

Buffalo and Rochester combined have more than 182,000 veterans, yet presently the closest national cemetery is 100 miles away in Bath.
