Demolition of the East Avenue Wegmans began Saturday morning. It's all to make way for a new store.

Workers removed the roof and and the exterior wall that runs parallel to East Avenue.
The process took several hours. The remaining roof and walls will be taken down in stages throughout the next week.

The entire store will be demolished by the end of the month to make room for a parking lot for the new store, which is scheduled to open May 19th.

YNN talked to an employee of the store that has worked there for more than 22 years. She says it's a very emotional process.

Barbara Fisher said, "It's very emotional because there's been a lot of changes through employees and also positions of the building, the way it was reconstructed and everything. I've seen it go from windows in the front to not windows in the front and the different opinions from customers and employees through the whole thing."

Fisher is working at the Ridge Culver Wegmans for the time being, but is looking forward to returning to her old position at the new East Ave store.
