The seventh annual "Hike for Heroes" event was held Saturday raising funds to help Honor Flight Rochester continue providing free honor Flights to vets.
Honor Flight of Rochester flies World War 2 and Korean War veterans to Washington D.C. to see their memorials as well as other major landmarks.
Organizers say they expect to raise between $5,000 and $7,000.
The fundraiser is a Service Learning project for Gates-Chili Middle School students.
"My students both raise money and make cards for the veterans as they go on their flights," said Gates-Chili Middle School teacher Wesley Geer. "They have a mail call half way down and they're given cards from the kids."
Veterans are encouraged to register for an Honor Flight Rochester mission by going online at www.honorflightrochester.org.
Paper applications are available at most town halls in Monroe County and at City Hall in Rochester.
