In celebration of brain injury survivors, the fourth annual Brain Waves Benefit
was held Sunday.

The event kicked off Brain Injury Awareness Month to raise awareness and raise money.

Dr. Mary Dombovy of Unity Health Systems was honored with the 2013 Community Hero Award. She was chosen for the impact of her work at St. Mary's Brain Injury Unit.

The event included dinner, live entertainment, and a private auction.

Organizers wanted people to know that a brain injury could happen to anyone.

Elaine Comarella, Hickok Center CEO, said, "It could happen to any one of us and just to be patient with people. If you think that there's something not quite right with somebody, it could be a brain injury, just be patient with them and invite them to be part of your community, that's all we ask."

The event was hosted by The Hickok Center for Brain Injury. They hoped to raise $10,000.
