Man Accused of Fatally Stabbing Woman and Raping Child Near Syracuse
Police have a suspect in custody in connection with a murder and rape that happened Thursday night outside a mall in Onondaga County.
State Police say David Renz, 29, attacked a woman and child who were leaving a gymnastics class.
Renz allegedly bound the woman and raped the child inside a vehicle, and then drove the car a short ways to a street in the Town of Clay, where the child was able to flee. She was found by a passing motorist and is currently being treated at the hospital for her injuries.
The woman, Lori Bresnahan, 47, suffered multiple stab wounds and later died at Upstate University Hospital.
State Police captured Renz a short distance from the scene.
"The suspect came out of the woods on an adjoining road and at that point was captured," said Captain Mark Lincoln, New York State Police.
Renz is charged with first and second degree murder, rape, and kidnapping..
Federal court records obtained by YNN show he may have a criminal background. Paperwork says a man from North Syracuse with the name of David J. Renz was arrested in a child pornography case and was released on his own recognizance back in January.
