The ribbon cutting is still a few weeks away, but people and their dogs were able to get a sneak peak at the new dog park at Greece Canal Park Sunday. It was open for those taking part in the Paws in the Park Dog Walk.

Supporters say the dog park has been a long time coming. It's built on a former softball field, and was paid for by private donations as well as a state grant.

"It's about an acre," said Tara Gambey of the Friends of Monroe County Dog Parks. "It's double-gated and there's a side for small dog and a side for large dogs, and we have hollowed out logs for the dogs to play in and water fountains and everything like that."

Sunday's Paws in the Park walk was actually a fundraiser for another dog park, that one slated for Durand Eastman Park.
