ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — "I'm way ahead of schedule, and just ready to go," said Steve Johnson.

It wasn't supposed to happen this quickly, but Monday afternoon, the Bills were glad to see Steve Johnson was back on the field; doing some limited work as he puts the finishing touches on recovering from groin surgery.

"We’ve been doing a lot and it feels like it’s about there. Obviously, I’m going to have a little pain or what not. That’s fine with me. Throughout this league you always have something," he said.

Johnson was one of four Bills receivers with an ailment last season; maybe a result of the group's self-invented nickname.

"We were the Goon Squad and everybody went down so we might have to switch things up and have another name. We’ll have something probably by training camp."

"He’s worked extremely hard to get back on the field. I know he would like to get some reps with Fitz before we get through here," said head coach Chan Gailey.

Being ahead of schedule could make a major impact on Steve Johnson's season. His original goal was to be full go in time for training camp. But with mini-camp opening next Tuesday, Johnson said that he plans to be on the field with his teammates doing at least some reps during those workouts.
