WEST BRIGHTON, N.Y. -- A popular Brighton restaurant was destroyed in a fire early Sunday morning. Fire officials said an automatic alarm called them to Woody's Sports Bar and Grill on West Henrietta Road around 4:20 a.m.

The West Brighton Fire Chief said that when they arrived the building was engulfed in flames. Crews were on scene Sunday afternoon to investigate the cause of the fire.

The fire chief said the building is a total loss, but no one was inside or injured by the fire.

Shawnna Sweet, family spokesperson, said "It is. It was like a Cheers type place. It had been around for quite a few years and the people who came here, you know, frequented it. But it was the kind of place were every body knew each other's name and they just felt comfortable here. It was that kind of atmosphere."
