An organization dedicated to helping Rochester teens will open its first teen empowerment neighborhood center Thursday.

The youth organization center is located at the corner of Genesee Street and Arnett Boulevard.

"Teen Empowerment" is a city-wide organization that hires teenagers to work as youth leaders.

The teens then work to empower other youth and adults to be positive individuals in the community.

Britny Horton has been a part of the Teen Empowerment family for three years. She struggled with self-esteem and depression. Now the high school senior is heading to Spellman College in Atlanta next year.

"I am ready to hear them. I am ready for us to go out and do dialogue sessions. I am all about the do-ology and not the talk-ology. So, I am ready to come and do the sessions and see what they want in this neighborhood and I am ready to start working on that now," Horton said.

Teen Empowerment will celebrate the grand opening of the center Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to stop by.
