Watchdog Group Keeps Eye on Senate
The state senate standoff may be over but, the legal wrangling is not.
A court fight continues next week over whether Governor David Paterson violated the state constitution when he appointed Richard Ravitch lieutenant governor to help break the senate stalemate.

Meantime the organization “Unshackle Upstate” is keeping its eyes on the senate and its promises of reform.

"If they can get the reforms in place, I mean, it's going to be pretty critical. You're talking term limits on the majority leader, term limits on committee chairs. So, I think those are very, very important to us simply because you can have new people in new positions,"said Brian Sampson, executive director of Unshackle Upstate. "What are the chances that they get it done? I think it's incumbent on organizations like Unshackle Upstate to continue to put the pressure on the now new majority again to get those in place, and to make sure that they understand why we want them, and why we want rank and file members to have a voice."
Sampson says Unshackle Upstate and other organizations across the state will track senators’ votes and report them to voters.
He says it might be time to put different people in power.
