Two family members charged in connection with the death of another family member made a court appearance Monday.

Corey Buzard, 33, of Holley, and his cousin Courtney Buzard, 17, of Brockport, are charged with criminally negligent homicide.

Last September, Corey’s 8-year-old daughter Abigail died in a car crash.

Police said Courtney was driving in the town of Barre on Old Oak Road when she lost control of her vehicle and rolled it down an embankment. Abigail was thrown from the vehicle and later died.

In court, Courtney’s attorney asked that she be tried as a youthful offender.

"Because of her age, she is eligible to be a youthful offender, at the discretion of the court," District Attorney Joseph Cardone said.

If convicted, Corey faces one to three years in prison. Both are due back in Orleans County Court on February 22.
